Because criminal law is a complicated area, most people do not have a working knowledge of what is involved in responding to formal charges. Individuals in these circumstances typically find themselves wanting to gain more information to protect their interests going forward. Luckily, parties do have options for taking advantage of informational resources and professional assistance when it comes to creating and presenting a criminal defense.
Two brothers in Virginia may be looking to become more knowledgeable on legal proceedings relating to their predicaments after recently being taken into custody. Reports stated that the two men, ages 18 and 19, were allegedly involved in a shooting. Authorities received reports of the purported incident at approximately 6:30 p.m., and when they arrived at the scene, they reportedly discovered a deceased 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old individual with life-threatening injuries.
It was unclear what caused police to suspect that the brothers were involved, but the 18-year-old was taken into custody the day after the event. The 19-year-old was arrested in another state several days later. Both brothers are facing charges for first degree murder, malicious assault and use of a firearm to commit a felony.
Understandably, allegations of violent crimes are serious, and the Virginia men accused in this alleged incident certainly understand that they could face significant consequences if convicted of the accusations. In order to work toward the outcomes they find most agreeable, they will each undoubtedly want to look into their criminal defense options. Though they are accused in the same purported crime, they may find that -- depending on the specific facts and circumstances -- different defense routes could suit their individual needs and desires.
